La 96e édition des Oscars s’est déroulée dimanche au Dolby Theatre de Los Angeles, marquant la conclusion de la saison des grands prix dans l’industrie du divertissement. Malheureusement, le réalisateur montréalais Vincent René-Lortie n’a pas remporté l’Oscar malgré sa nomination pour son court métrage « Invincible ». C’est Wes Anderson, une figure appréciée à Hollywood, qui a décroché la statuette dans cette catégorie avec son film « The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar ».

D’autres artistes canadiens étaient également en lice pour des distinctions lors de la cérémonie de remise des Oscars ce dimanche.
Ryan Gosling, célèbre pour son rôle de Ken dans le succès estival « Barbie », était nominé pour le prix du meilleur acteur de soutien. Cependant, c’est Robert Downey Jr. qui a remporté la statuette pour son rôle dans « Oppenheimer ». Sur scène, Downey Jr. a interprété la chanson « I’m Just Ken », qui était également en lice dans la catégorie des meilleures chansons originales.
La scénariste et réalisatrice Celine Song, avec son premier long métrage « Past Lives », a été nominée dans la prestigieuse catégorie du meilleur film et du meilleur scénario original.
Le cinéaste néo-écossais Ben Proudfoot, déjà lauréat d’un Oscar en 2022 pour son court métrage « The Queen of Basketball », a remporté une deuxième statuette cette année pour son court métrage documentaire « The Last Repair Shop », réalisé en collaboration avec Kris Bowers de Los Angeles.
Le regretté musicien torontois Robbie Robertson, décédé l’année dernière à l’âge de 80 ans, était également en lice pour sa musique originale dans le film « Killers of the Flower Moon » de Martin Scorsese.
La cinéaste torontoise Nisha Pahuja concourait pour le meilleur long métrage documentaire avec son film « To Kill a Tiger ».
En outre, les artistes en nomination ont eu la chance de repartir avec un sac de produits de luxe, dont une friandise exclusive du Québec. Le « sagar », un sucre fin et moelleux dérivé de la sève d’érable de la province, faisait partie des nombreux cadeaux sélectionnés par l’agence de marketing de Los Angeles, Distinctive Assets.
La présentation des Oscars est traditionnellement un défi pour les animateurs, nécessitant un équilibre délicat entre l’humour, le talent artistique et la gestion des sujets d’actualité. Cette année, Jimmy Kimmel a assuré la maîtrise de la cérémonie pour la quatrième fois.
